Book Cover Design: The Eternal Recurrence of Sue Schuester & Simon Bartley And The Speed of Time (2024)
This is another WIP novel that I’ve been writing for the past year, and I have tentatively decided that it will be getting a sequel, which may be really premature at this point, but I wanted an excuse to make another book cover as a companion to the one I’ve already made. What exactly is this whole thing about anyways? From my short blurb on Wattpad (the cringe fanfic site): “In 1992, while on an amateur ghost hunt, three brothers unearth a decades-old mystery surrounding the disappearance of a young girl. As they delve deeper, they uncover secrets that not only test their faith in the paranormal, but also confront them with unsettling possibilities that blur the lines between reality and the unknown.“
If I could accurately compare this to something, it’s like kind of a ghostbusters story played straight but with 90s kids. Or if Christopher Nolan wrote a Goosebumps story. It asks the basic question “what if you brought a ghost back to life?” And thus the design of the book cover references Sue, the eponymous ghost, haunting the desecrated auditorium of the abandoned high school she once attended, suspended in the air either caught or agains the backdrop of spooky theater curtains.
Don’t ask me yet what the second one would be about. Something about time-travel maybe? This design references the other main character, Simon Bartley, and his eventual connection to Sue as the story develops across time. Is that a spoiler of some sort? One day when I can eventually get this published maybe you’ll find out.
